Who is a Candidate for in-office Teeth Whitening?
Professional teeth whitening is a fantastic solution for many patients who are looking to diminish discoloration or stains on their teeth and to brighten their smiles. Before scheduling in-office teeth whitening, our team will make sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for the process and will discuss your goals and treatment options. In-office whitening can be a quick, convenient way to enhance your smile before a wedding, graduation, or other big event or just to get a head start on the teeth-whitening process. Please keep in mind, this option does not have the ability to whiten dental restorations. In-office teeth whitening can be ideal for enhancing the look of teeth that are stained, discolored, or yellow due to:
- Natural aging process
- Tea, colas, coffee, or red wine
- Berries, dark spices, or tomato-based foods
- Smoking or smokeless tobacco
- Certain medical conditions or medications
How Is Opalescence teeth whitening Performed?
Opalescence Boost in-office teeth whitening is performed in one of our comfortable treatment rooms. Before getting started, we will polish and dry your teeth so the whitening gel can be evenly applied. We'll place a protective barrier over your gums and other soft tissues to prevent the gel from coming into contact with these areas. Our well-trained team will then apply a professional-strength 40% hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth; the gel will absorb into the enamel to lift away deep stains and discoloration. Depending upon your present enamel color and desired outcome, this process could be completed 2 – 3 times. Once your procedure is complete, we'll remove the rest of the gel and gum barrier and will thoroughly rinse your mouth.
What happens After In-Office Teeth Whitening?
Following your in-office teeth whitening session, you'll be free to go about your normal daily routine, but you should avoid products that may stain your teeth (such as lipstick, coffee, and tobacco products) for a few days. Opalescence Boost contains potassium nitrate and fluoride, which can help minimize tooth sensitivity that patients sometimes experience following professional whitening treatments. To maintain the results over time, you may wish to have a take-home whitening kit made, which can allow you to touch-up your smile as you see fit. Biannual dental cleanings at Cranston Dental Group and good oral hygiene habits can also help to keep your smile bright.
Will dental Insurance Cover teeth whitening?
As it is a cosmetic dentistry procedure, teeth whitening typically is not a covered benefit under most dental insurance plans. During your consultation, our team will talk with you about your treatment options and help you select a convenient payment method. Cranston Dental Group is proud to be a leading provider of high-quality treatment options and can also assist you in applying for low-interest healthcare financing to bring your dream smile within reach.
